Curricular Components

Leadership Classes

Each of our music rehearsals is made up of basic rhythmic training, musical experimenting, and performance practice. Rehearsals begin with a brief check in to make sure the kids are feeling safe, loved, and then transitions into basic rhythm games. These games allow students to practice their understanding of rhythm in a fun and easy to learn way.

Once basic rhythm has been established, rehearsals continue with stick handling skills and performance on buckets and other recycled instruments. Music games are played and pieces are broken down into Samba rhythm. This school of thought involves each student having their own individual rhythm, which combined with all other individual parts, creates a whole piece. Students are able to play many difficult works at a lower level because of this style.

Design Classes

While we believe music courses are incredibly important, we also see the value in teaching young children leadership skills early on. Once a week, we have a leadership class that enforces these leadership skills through games and activities.

Our goal is to teach young children how to build teamwork skills, leadership skills, self-confidence, how to overcome obstacles, set goals, and be imaginative. With these classes and our support, they will grow up feeling as if they can conquer the world, and will have the skills to do it.

Nurturing the imagination is one of the most important parts of childhood. Many of our underserved kids don't get the opportunity to experiment with imagination so we at Find Your Beat provide design courses.

Our goal is to raise students awareness of how instruments and music work, allow hands-on play and expand the imagination. We do this by teaching classes in instrument manufacturing, music composition, sound art, musical analysis, and so much more. Activites range from discovering the sounds that certain materials produce, listening to musicals and drawing pictures, dancing, and composing our own music!
